Electrical Science B.Tech First Year: This is a core subject in the first year of the B.Tech course in institutions across India. Principles and concepts concerning the domain of electrical engineering are introduced through this course. This course helps to acquire knowledge and skills in understanding and analyzing electrical systems so that students can easily pursue higher studies and professional works in the field of Engineering.
Basic Electrical Science Concept
Basic Electrical Circuits
In the earlier part of the course, the students are introduced to simple electrical circuits. This means devices such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, and how they can be combined in series and parallel circuits. The students will also be introduced to Ohm’s Law, which relates voltage, current, and resistance and provides the basic framework necessary for circuit analysis.
AC and DC Currents
It involves electrical science dealing with both alternating and direct current. Students will learn how AC is different from DC, their generation, and applications in power distribution. AC is mostly used as it is efficient when distributing over long distances, while DC is commonly used in battery devices.
Network Theorems
These circuit theorems have been developed which aid in simplifying the seemingly complex electrical circuits. These will be introduced in the course, including Thevenin’s Theorem, Norton’s Theorem, Superposition Theorem, and Maximum Power Transfer Theorem. In all these theorems allow a circuit to be analyzed and problems solved quickly.
Magnetic Circuits
This includes a very fundamental part of the course: magnetic circuits and how they relate to electrical circuits. It would introduce learners to the concepts of magnetic fields, magnetic flux, and inductance. In this module, one covers transformers, a major device for voltage transformation in power systems.
Electromagnetic Induction
This topic addresses the principles of electromagnetic induction introduced by Michael Faraday. In the module, students learn how changing magnetic fields can induce voltage across a conductor and develop crucial apparatus such as generators and motors.
Electrical Machines
The concepts of electrical machines are introduced, which include transformers, motors, and generators. The understanding of the functioning of these machines and how they are applied in various industrial sectors constitutes a very significant fraction of electrical science.
Applications in Practice
The course is almost invariably followed by laboratory sessions, which would allow students to practically work with electrical components and circuits. These laboratory exposures will serve to reinforce theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
